Well how very apt it is that the winner of our latest Twitter Blogpost competition is The Yarn Witch UK. Just in time for Halloween! We feel it’s vital that we all support start ups. Craft start ups are particularly difficult to establish so we were delighted to chose Natalie’s business. The branding and amazing knitted products caught our attention on Twitter. The Yarn Witch is a fledgling craft business founded by Natalie Newman in May of this year. We think this lady is going to be massive.
As we know trying to get a business of the ground is not easy and requires a lot of hard work, dedication and funding of some kind. So how has life been for Natalie since she started her hand knitted craft business? As the business is only a few months old, Natalie still hasn’t given up the day job as she tries to fund her startup. “I still work full time in an office then come home to work on The Yarn Witch products”. The products are made using a unique mix of yarns and fleece.
Natalie is entirely self taught and constantly tweaks her technqiue to see what she can come up with next. She has a huge interest in Gypsy Folklore and so her creations are very much influenced by that style. Her first creation were fairies for her little girl’s birthday. Since then she has expanded the product range to include earrings, headbands and our favourites, called “barefoot sandals”. A nice way to dress your feet on the beach or just to glam it up going around the house (and we’re all for a bit of glam). The range starts at a great price point, only £4.00 for the gorgeous crocheted bag charm seen above..
Another factor we love about The Yarn Witch is that even though she is a start up, Natalie still gives something back. She has created a product (a butterfly pin) specifically to raise money for Help for Heroes and for the Fibromyalgia Association. She has an online e-commerce shop which you can support at http://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/TheYarnWitchUK.
Natalie has garnered a lot of interest in Social Media circles already, winning the coveted Twitter #Womaninbiz award twice. The Yarn Witch is now getting her broomstick geared up for Christmas, getting products ready for craft fairs across the United Kingdom. “It feels too early, but it will fly in” she says. Her product range for Christmas includes flower posies, fairies and Christmas accessories.
